As if the entire list of cannabis varieties is not already brimming with fruity strains, here comes another one that blatantly slaps stoners in the face with its mouth-watering grape-like flavors.
Information about Sour Grape:
Fruity strains like Sour Grape are becoming more and more popular especially among novice users who are yet to discover and appreciate the true classic flavor of weed. However, while all fruity strains are delicious to everyone’s palate, not all of them are actually for everyone.
Unfortunately, these strains are not entirely as harmless as an actual fruit, unless perhaps if that fruit has some level of toxicity in it. True to all cannabis varieties, a strain’s flavor is not a sole determinant of how potent its high should be. There are some instances wherein the sweet and fruity flavor of a strain conceals a pretty potent high just waiting to happen.
This is not to put in some sour grapes in this discussion or anything (yes, the pun is intended) but it is essential for users, especially beginners, to be mindful of a strain’s entire genetic profile so as not to fall victim to their tempting flavors.
Sour Grape is a good example of a strain that easily reminds one of the actual candy or fruit. While there is no concrete explanation for why it is called as such, it has likely to do with its flavors and not to mention, the flashes of purple hues on its buds.
Although the original breeder of Sour Grape remains a mystery, the strain is said to be the product of crossing Sour Diesel and another variety with the same grape flavor and purple hues as Sour Grape. Thus, the most common variant of the strain is the one that has resulted from crossing Sour Diesel and Granddaddy Purple.

The soaring high begins almost immediately as a headrush that puts users in a happier and generally uplifted mood. This head high is rather functional which allows users to continue with their daily activities with an alert mind that is free from any unwanted psychedelic effects.
As the high continues, a relaxing and calming sensation will slowly creep in. Although, this body buzz does not overwhelm users to the point of couch lock. Instead, users will simply feel the urge to rest and might even get the munchies. Because the strain is capable of stimulating both the mind and body, it makes a good strain choice for a daytime pot break or a late afternoon treat.
Fragrance
Sour Grape gives off a sour and fruity aroma with some hints of pungent earth and fuel. When the nugs are burned, the smell of grapes and jasmine becomes more prominent. Surely, this combination is not one to disappoint seasoned users who are looking for a strong high with a sweet twist.
Flavors
While the classic sharp pungent taste of weed is very well-appreciated, there is nothing less tasty about a strain with fruity flavors. Sour Grape, for example, offers some interesting fruity and fuel flavors reminiscent to that of grapes and diesel. Upon exhale, the smoke of Sour Grape is smooth and easy on the palate, something that users will surely love.

Adverse Reaction
Another good thing about Sour Grape is the fact that despite all the inevitable side effects of cannabis, it can proudly say that the set of adverse reactions that usually comes with it are significantly manageable.
To wit, the most commonly reported side effect experienced by users is dry mouth. A few of these people may have noticed signs of dry eyes as well. Other adverse reactions from the strain may include dizziness, paranoia, and anxiety. However, these rarely manifest in seasoned users with high tolerance.
Medical
The prominent surge of positive energy from Sour Grape makes the strain an effective stress reliever and antidepressant among users who are trying to get rid of any negative thoughts in their minds.
At the same time, patients who are suffering from certain health conditions that cause them to feel severe pain and somewhat nauseated may also benefit from Sour Grape’s analgesic and sedative properties to relieve these symptoms.

Growing
Unfortunately, the identity of Sour Grape’s original breeder is not the thing that remains a mystery. There is also very little information about the strain’s cultivation that is made available to the public.
It appears that Sour Grape seeds are not sold commercially which means that prospective growers may need to settle with clippings from the actual plant and grow them as clones. The good news is the plant can thrive either indoor or outdoor. A Mediterranean climate with daytime temperatures between 72 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit is preferable if the plant is grown outdoors.
During the plant’s late vegetative stage, growers may need to expose them to cold temperatures at night to bring out its purple hues. Also, if grown indoors, it is best to consider using carbon filters inside the grow tents or grow rooms to avoid unnecessary build-up of strong odors.
Flowering Time
Indoors
The exact indoor flowering time of Sour Grape is also unknown. However, note that both its parent strains have a significantly lengthy flowering period of 80 days at most. Both are quite a heavy yielder too. So, on that note, it is likely for Sour Grape to also have the same characteristics.
Outdoors
The same is true for the strain’s outdoor flowering time and average yield. Sour Grape’s parents are harvested by November and October, and both produce heavy yields. This information may be used by prospective growers in making their estimates.
