all about Tropical Runtz Strain

What strain is Tropical Runtz?

Exotic Genetix created Tropical Runtz by crossing one of their in-house strains, Tropic Truffle, with the highly popular Runtz.

Tropic Truffle (Tropicana Cookies x Mint Chocolate Chip) is a slightly sativa-dominant hybrid with a medium to high THC level. Consumers describe it as highly stimulating and energizing, perfect for when you need a creative boost. Tropic Truffle’s diverse terpene profile delivers a gassy citrus flavor and aroma complemented with sweet and sour notes.

Since its inception circa 2017, Runtz has earned legendary status, bringing with it notoriety as well as solid genetics. This Zkittles and Gelato #33 cross is a perfectly balanced hybrid with a high THC content, delightful terpene profile, and easy-to-grow nature. Its powerful genetics make it a popular go-to for cross-breeding, leading to a showcase of spin-off strains.

Harnessing the THC-heavy genetics of Runtz and the captivating terpenes of Tropic Truffle results in an offspring that’s as tasty as it is potent. With this lineage it is no wonder that the Tropical Runtz is bringing home the trophies.

Is Tropical Runtz strain indica or sativa?

The Tropical Runtz marijuana strain comes from an illustrious line of cultivars handing down their valuable genetics and hybrid nature. So it’s likely Tropical Runtz can lean either way depending on factors like the breeding process and growing conditions. Many sources describing it as indica dominant add that it still displays sativa traits. In fact, it has taken multiple awards at the High Times Cannabis Cup in the Sativa Flower category.

Growing Tropical Runtz strain

Inheriting its easy-to-grow nature from the Runtz side of the family, it displays a healthy tolerance for unfavorable conditions. It does well outdoors in full sun with healthy, compact soil. If you prefer indoor growing, its compact size makes it a great option. Plus, it responds well to low-stress training (LST), allowing you to utilize your space most efficiently.

Throughout the vegetative and early flowering phase, Tropical Runtz plants tend to exhibit bright shades of green. That is until late flowering when she starts displaying gorgeous hues of deep purple that flow throughout the leaves and stems. The popcorn-like buds are scattered along the main branches. And they meet towards the top to form massive colas that are drenched in glistening trichome resin crystals.

Tropical Runtz strain flowering time and yield

Like many other strains in its weight class, the Tropical Runtz weed strain averages a flowering time of 60-70 days, leaving outdoor growers with a mid-October harvest. With the optimum conditions, Tropical Runtz can produce large yields, making it a favored choice among growers.

Disclaimer: The average yield of any cannabis plant depends on several factors. Including the cultivator’s skill, growing conditions, strain genetics, and the plant’s size and health. It also differs between photoperiod and autoflower plants. However, you can use general estimates as a potential yield per plant guideline.

For photoperiod plants, this is 16-64 ounces (450-1814 grams) outdoors and 8-24 ounces (227-680 grams) indoors.

Tropical Runtz strain autoflowering time and yield

Autoflowers don’t require a change in the light cycle, making them considerably faster to grow. The first buds typically appear around four to six weeks and have a flowering time between four and ten weeks.

Like most autoflowers, the Tropical Runtz marijuana strain will be ready to harvest after ten to fourteen weeks with a potential yield per plant of 1.7-7 ounces (50-200 grams) outdoors and 1.7-4.2 ounces (50-120 grams) indoors.
