In 2014 the “Doomsday” Seed Vault in Svalbard, Norway accepted a deposit of 21,500 cannabis seeds. This is a bold move considering the prohibitionist mindsets that remain in charge in Norway. While Norway does have a strict medicinal cannabis program, all forms of cannabis are illegal outside of that narrowly defined exception, those cannabis seeds were still allowed to be deposited there.
The Global Seed Vault’s stated mission is to preserve the world’s food supply by protecting the genetic material at the core of it all. Despite the contention of those in charge across the globe that cannabis is of no medical or societal value, it is still valued enough to be protected from any catastrophe that could potentially lead to extinction.
This dichotomy of perception leads to a conclusion that, when followed to its logical extension, means that much of the world’s leadership has been lying to us for years. After decades of persecution of this plant the Norwegian government, which is responsible for the Svalbard Global Seed Vault, has silently admitted to the fraud and charade surrounding the global prohibition of cannabis.
