Cannabichromene (CBC)

Updated: Nov 19

Mechoulam and Gaoni identified Cannabichromene in 1966, but in all this time little research has been conducted to fully understand the cannabinoid. Instead, CBD and THC both receive most of the attention with studies focusing more on their properties.

Cannabichromene (CBC)

Cannabichromene (CBC):

You will rarely find a large quantity of cannabichromene (CBC) in cannabis plants, especially in comparison to THC and sometimes CBD; however, it is still considered to be an important phytocannabinoid. CBC is structured much like cannabinoids such as CBD, CBN, THCV, and THC. It even has a similar formula as CBD and THC.

This article will outline a large number of pertinent information and findings on the amazing curative properties of cannabichromene. While it is powerful all on its own, when combined with other compounds this cannabinoid can be quite useful.

What is Cannabichromene (CBC)

CBC is a non-psychoactive compound that develops due to the action of the enzyme CBCA-synthase which then turns into CBGA in cannabichromenic acid (CBCA). CBCA is the non-decarboxylated acid version of CBC. When this cannabinoid is decarboxylated and activated through the release of the CO2 molecule, it transforms from CBCA to CBC. If CBC is exposed to heat or UV rays, it will convert to Cannabicyclol (CBL).

The process could take anywhere from a few weeks to several months, or if heat is applied, it will happen instantly. Back in the 1970’s, scientist considered CBC to be the second most common cannabinoid in the cannabis plant. However, modern research suggests otherwise since marijuana growers are constantly looking for plants with a high CBD and THC count. In the 1970’s scientist conducted studies using the pure strains they were aware of at the time, most likely coming from tropical regions. Strains found in the tropics are more likely to have more CBC, having little to no similarities to modern-day hybrids.

Properties and Therapeutic Benefits of CBC

At this time, research is not sure that CBC responds on CB1 and CB2 receptors in the nervous system like other cannabinoids. The way CBC reacts to TRPV1 and TRPA1 receptors helps us understand this cannabinoid healing abilities while enhancing the presence of endocannabinoids in the body.

According to recent research on mice, combining THC with CBC balances the anti-inflammatory response of cannabichromene making these two cannabinoids connect powerfully.

Below are some very key medicinal benefits of Cannabichromene (CBC) and ways to use it.

If you are looking for a cannabinoid that won’t get you high, then CBC is the compound for you. Scientist has concluded that cannabichromene may be very beneficial in the following ways:

  1. Antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral

  2. Antidepressant

  3. Alleviate pain

  4. Antidiarrheal

  5. Increased neurogenesis

  6. Anti-inflammatory

  7. Fight Migraines

  8. Anti-acne

  9. Stop cancer growth

Here are the details you need to know how CBC helps with these conditions.

Antibacterial and antifungal

CBC is antimicrobial, fighting harmful bacteria and fungi. This cannabinoid has a potent ability to ward off bacteria. Cannabichromene also displays mild to moderate responses against various forms of fungi.

Anti-viral

CBC helps with the anti-viral effects of cannabis.

Antidepressant

CBC alleviates depression and is a mood changer. It along with other cannabinoids has the potential to assist with the mood enhancing properties of cannabis with creating the same changes in the brain as THC.

Alleviate pain

CBC is great for pain reduction, just not to the extent of THC. Instead, it helps with the pain killing properties of cannabis. When CBC connects with different marks that are responsible for controlling pain at the spinal level, it can reduce pain. Since it is non-psychoactive, researchers suggest it could be a good option to help with pain without the patient getting high. It also reduces pain caused by nerve damage.

Antidiarrheal

CBC has properties that make it helpful in caring for gastrointestinal and inflammatory bowel disease.

Increased brain health

This cannabinoid is a neuroprotector, according to research on mice in 2013. Cannabichromene increases neurogenesis by enhancing how long progenitor brain stem cells can live.

Anti-inflammatory

CBC decreases inflammation and swelling in the intestinal tract. The cannabinoid effectively fights inflammation while never activating cannabinoid receptors. If you mix cannabichromene with other cannabinoids, it has a very potent influence.

Migraines

Research shows CBC is effective at treating migraine headaches

Antiacne

Severe acne is common around the world, and luckily studies show that cannabichromene is useful in curing this ailment through reducing the creation of sebum by the sebaceous glands and the effects of arachidonic acid.

Stops cancer growth

CBC slow down the development of cancer. Anandamide, a naturally occurring endocannabinoid, may be to thank for this act. It has an impact on the CB1 and CB2 receptors having been known to ward off breast cancer in humans. Cannabichromene stops anandamide’s process so that it can remain in the blood for a longer period.

Where to Find CBC

It is difficult to find CBC extracts, unlike THC and CBD. It is a minor cannabinoid that is mostly found in tropical strains of cannabis. There are a select few dispensaries and distributors that offer CBC, and some products have low THC levels that remain high in CBC.
